ARoS visitor figures for 2021

In 2021, ARoS welcomed 401,844 visitors, of whom 315,857 purchased tickets to the exhibitions.

- ARoS has once again endured a year marked by the coronavirus. In total, the museum was closed for almost five months, and in light of this, we are very pleased with this year’s visitor figures. In particular, the current lockdown, which began in December, is hitting us hard, as we had only just opened two new exhibitions featuring Shoplifter and Lu Yang, and still have Sif Itona Westerberg and our critically acclaimed and well-attended Turner exhibition on the programme. At the same time, we have had to shut down all the museum’s other activities, including the shop and café/restaurant, which had finally got off to a good start following the previous lockdown. Over the coming weeks, we are waiting in the hope that cultural life will be able to reopen to the public after 17 January, says Rebecca Matthews, who has just taken up her post as director of ARoS.
