Annual Report 2025

ARoS publishes its 2025 annual report.

The Board has approved the ARoS’ 2025 Annual Report – a year that featured seven major special exhibitions, including audience favourites Picasso, Miró, Léger and the Many Voices of Modernism, Igshaan Addams – Weerhoud and Alexander Tovborg – Divine Comedy.

The annual result shows a surplus of DKK 1.6 million and a strengthened equity base, reflecting a stable and well-managed organisation with continued strong public support and solid backing from foundations and local businessse. With a self-financing ratio of approximately 70 per cent, ARoS continues its efforts to consolidate the museum’s financial foundation – a key objective within its long-term vision.

“2025 was a year in which ARoS pursued its ambitions with curiosity, confidence and determination. With the opening of The Salling Gallery and a series of ambitious artistic initiatives, we have created new encounters between audiences and art while attracting international attention. We now stand on a strong foundation for the museum’s continued development and for ARoS to remain a vibrant, inclusive and relevant museum,” says Rebecca Matthews, Museum Director and CEO of ARoS.

In total, 650,000 visitors came to ARoS in 2025, including 556,000 ticketed guests, making the museum one of the most visited museums in Denmark.

2025 also saw a number of significant acquisitions added to the ARoS collection, including works by Igshaan Addams, Ismar Čirkinagić, Ditte Ejlerskov, Poul Gernes, Hanne Nielsen & Birgit Johnsen, Kirsten Justesen, Jane Jin Kaisen, Maja Malou Lyse, Rasmus Myrup, Simon Dybbroe Møller, Ovartaci and Alexander Tovborg. These acquisitions contribute to strengthening ARoS’ profile across generations and artistic practices. At the same time, a new long-term acquisitions strategy was developed, with implementation beginning in early 2026.

“The Board is pleased with the year’s results, which confirm that ARoS continues to stand strong artistically, financially, strategically and organisationally. In 2025, the museum maintained a high artistic standard and received considerable international attention. This underlines ARoS’ position as a key cultural institution – locally rooted with an international reach,” says Laura Hay Uggla, Chair of the Board of ARoS.

The annual report also highlights progress in sustainability, audience development, and governance. In 2025, ARoS maintained its Green Attraction certification, while the museum carried out extensive audience research to better understand how it can remain relevant to existing visitors and attract new target groups. Once again, ARoS was the most visited museum among young people during the nationwide K7 Week and the second most visited museum in Denmark among children and young people under the age of 18.
