About the exhibition

The cartoon was the dominant medium as the audience was invited to explore the Bjarke Ingels Group's metropolitan architecture and the company's working methods from raw idea to finished building. In the exhibition YES IS MORE, a large, colourful cartoon unfolded on all the gallery walls, inviting the audience behind the architecture.

A mix of quotes and images, supplemented by 18 films, illustrated the evolutionary process that characterises BIG, where discussions and resistance along the way become inspiration in the development of the final design. At the centre of the exhibition, visitors could move around between more than 30 illuminated models of Danish and international projects that together formed a metropolis signed BIG.

The exhibition at ARoS was created in collaboration with the Danish Architecture Centre and Bjarke Ingels Group.

BIG - Bold and innovative

Playful, controversial, bold, innovative and provocative are just some of the words that characterise BIG. With Bjarke Ingels at the helm, the architectural firm has in just a few years created award-winning projects, innovative buildings, an international reputation and made its mark in the public debate.

Based on the vision of freeing architecture from conventional thinking and instead viewing modern life as an inspiring challenge, BIG has contributed significantly to renewing the Danish architectural tradition.

Platform for dialogue

In recent years, Danish construction has been undergoing rapid development. Danish architects have experimented, expanded and developed - and Danish architecture has advanced in terms of design and architectural idioms, new technology, new skills, professionalisation, internationalisation and sustainability.

To such an extent that Danish architects have innovated and developed the Danish/Scandinavian tradition in many different ways. On the verge of economic recession, it's only natural to ask the question: How can Danish architectural firms continue their success and take their experience and potential into the 21st century?

The YES IS MORE exhibition brought the Bjarke Ingels Group's take on an answer to the question.
