Vertigo
About the exhibition
The exhibition Vertigo brings together a group of artists who do not belong under one common name, but who are brought together here because of their artistic practice, each working in their own way to create a fluid space that evokes the sensation of vertigo.
Vertigo has often been used as a way to describe the experience of violent change that has framed the existence of modern man. Our contemporary world is characterised by an unstable world order where erosion, displacement and change have become part of our normal existence. Every day seems to bring new crises, all of which contribute to a sense of unease or fear. Classic identities and patterns of cognition are being dismantled and new ones are emerging at a rapid pace. The increasing unpredictability paints a picture of a world in a state of flux, where reality and fiction become harder to separate, and the feeling of vertigo can be said to frame the zeitgeist.
The exhibition Vertigo brings together a group of internationally recognised artists who work with the boundless, the overwhelming and the chaotic. That which moves us outside of ordinary time and space and entices us to fall into emptiness. Their works paint a picture of a world in a state of flux, where reality and fiction become harder to separate, and the feeling of "vertigo" or mental dizziness describes the overwhelming feeling created by the intangibility of the world.
