About the exhibition

ARoS is now reintroducing visitors to Jeppe Hein's dynamic art project. This time in a completely new setting, where the artist creates a unique trajectory of the marble track staged in the museum's 1100 m2 special exhibition gallery.

When the visitor passes the entrance to the exhibition, it is detected by a sensor and a ball is sent off. Each visitor can then follow "their own" ball around the complex course of loops, hoists and drops. The architecture of the entire space is transformed into a moving, dynamic structure when Distance pushes the viewer. Jeppe Hein encourages us to use our senses. Not only in the encounter with his art, but just as much in the encounter with our fellow human beings. Distance encourages dialogue between the museum's visitors - and testifies to a concept where art and technology go hand in hand. It's art and entertainment for people of all ages when the interactive marble run creates space for both entertainment and reflection.

Facts about Distance

In 2009, Jeppe Hein visited ARoS with his largest exhibition to date, Sense City. After the exhibition, ARoS acquired the artwork Distance for the museum's permanent collection. Until recently, the work was on loan to the Indianapolis Museum of Art in the USA. Distance consists of a series of movable modules. Each time the work is reinstalled, it is in a new version adapted to the environment according to the artist's design.
