About the exhibition

In this exhibition, we renew our focus on ARoS’ significant collection of Danish and international art. In a newly conceived display in our collection gallery on Level 6, we encourage visitors to explore art since 1960 with fresh eyes.

The exhibition is a classic and rare survey of art history, charting sixty years of artistic expression and experimentation.

Very few collections in Denmark contains this broad scope of both Danish and international art, and I am sure the classic rehang of our collection will benefit and inspire both new and older generations.

Jakob Vengberg Sevel, curator and head of collections at ARoS

The exhibition opens with a suite of galleries dedicated to the diversity of artistic experimentation and takes off in a period of time where the ideal of classical painting was broken down, and art became political and conceptualized. Visitors can look forward to a vigorous encounter with works associated with Pop Art, Noveau réalism and Fluxus.

Visitors can look forward to experience works by Andy Warhol, Per Kirkeby, Robert Rauschenberg, Jenny Holzer, Olafur Eliasson, and Sif Itona Westerberg amongst others.
