Young people get free access to ARoS

Last year, ARoS was the most visited venue during K7, Denmark’s nationwide culture week. This year, everyone under the age of 27 is once again invited to visit the museum free of charge during week 37, from 7–13 September.

During K7 week in 2025, an average of 1,300 young people visited ARoS each day. Over the course of the week, a total of 9,042 young people visited the museum, according to K7’s own figures.

“K7 week gives us a unique opportunity to invite even more young people into the museum and let them encounter art and ARoS on their own terms. We hope they will discover that ARoS is a place where they can experience world-class art, such as our brand-new Skyspace by James Turrell, but also a place that is ideal for events and new, unexpected encounters with art,” says ARoS’s Museum Director Rebecca Matthews.

In collaboration with a group of young people from Aarhus, we have created a unique programme combining art, music and experiences. Start your day with morning yoga in James Turrell’s Skyspace As Seen Below, join Volume Village for social dining, or compete for sex toys in Peech’s art quiz.

You can also step into Nina Beier and John Miller’s thought-provoking universe in The Populace and explore their installation of mannequins. In Unruly – The Body in Punk, you can delve into the vibrant punk movement and experience works ranging from fanzines and jewellery to posters, Polaroids and a drum kit clad in tight leather.

ARoS After Hours <3 K7

The highlight of the week takes place on Friday 11 September from 4.00–8.30 pm, when we set the scene for ARoS After Hours <3 K7. The museum will be transformed into a lively Friday bar, with everything from board games, beers and live music to a Silent Disco event in ARoS’ iconic artwork Your rainbow panorama.

As a special treat, all K7 participants will also have the chance to experience ARoS’ new exhibition Collection Favourites one day before it opens to the general public. The exhibition offers a mesmerizing reunion with iconic works from the ARoS collection by Bill Viola, Tony Oursler, Rose Eken, Michael Kvium, Shirin Neshat and others – as well as the opportunity to experience a brand-new sculpture by Ron Mueck: Couple Under an Umbrella.

About K7

K7 is a nationwide initiative offering free or reduced admission to more than 270 museums, exhibition spaces, theatres and classical music venues across Denmark for all young people aged 18–27 during week 37. It is an open invitation to young people to discover new cultural experiences in a more spontaneous, accessible and informal way – including those who do not usually visit museums, theatres or classical concerts.

In Aarhus, K7 offers free admission to venues including ARoS, KØN – Gender Museum Denmark, Den Gamle By, Moesgaard Museum, Kunsthal Aarhus and Museum Ovartaci.

To get free admission, simply bring your free, personal K7 card, which can be downloaded from the K7 website, when you arrive at the museum or exhibition venue.
