The Rainbow is celebrating its 10th anniversary

This year, ARoS is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Olafur Eliasson’s artwork *Your Rainbow Panorama*. The celebrations will take place on Friday 28 May, when the museum will mark the occasion with a range of activities.

Construction of this extensive artwork began in May 2009, and today it is almost impossible to imagine ARoS without this colourful artwork on its roof. The ‘Rainbow’, as the work is popularly known, was unveiled in May 2011 and has since attracted thousands of people to the museum.

- From ‘Your Rainbow Panorama’, you get a spectacular 360-degree view of Aarhus. It is an immersive artwork that leaves an impression that resonates throughout your whole body. You see the city from a new perspective, whilst at the same time becoming part of the artwork yourself. It’s a deeply sensory experience,’ says Erlend G. Høyersten, Director of ARoS.

- ‘Your Rainbow Panorama’ has become a landmark for the city. It offers the chance to experience the city in new colours and from a new perspective, and even ten years on, the experience is still just as fantastic as it was the first time. ‘Your Rainbow Panorama’ attracts attention from all over the world and has helped to make Aarhus a recognised city of culture. This speaks volumes about the immense value that art and culture can bring to a city, says Rabih Azad-Ahmad, Councillor for Culture and Citizen Services.

At the opening of the artwork in 2011, Olafur Eliasson described the project in the following words:

“Your Rainbow Panorama enters into a dialogue with the existing architecture and enhances what is already there, namely the view of the city. I have created a space that almost blurs the boundaries between inside and outside, and where you become a little unsure as to whether you have stepped into a work of art or into part of the museum. This uncertainty is important to me, as it encourages people to think and perceive beyond the dimensions they are used to navigating.”
