The donation comprises three works by the Chinese artist Liu Shiyuan, one work by the French artist Marguerite Humeau and one work by the Danish artist Jakob Kolding.

All three artists are establishing themselves as prominent figures on the international art scene and, through their respective artistic practices, shed light on the human condition in our time.

“We are incredibly delighted and honoured by this generous donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation. The five works bring fresh relevance and give younger voices a more prominent place in ARoS’s collection of works on paper, and we look forward to presenting the works to our visitors through our new collection exhibitions,” says museum director Rebecca Matthews.

About the artists and the works

Liu Shiyuan (b. 1985) is a Chinese artist based in Beijing and Copenhagen. Her artistic practice spans several media, including photography, text, video and installation. The two acrylic works on paper, *Punished You and Me No. 15* and *No. 16*, consist of a series of colourful painted fields which, at first glance, resemble small, digitally generated pixel fields. The final work, *Cold-Blooded Animal No. 5*, is a so-called C-print on paper. What the three works have in common is that they comment on the all-encompassing visual culture that surrounds us and shed light on the relationship between humans and machines.

Marguerite Humeau (b. 1986) is a French visual artist based in London, known for her multidisciplinary artistic practice, which combines elements of sculpture, installation and storytelling. Humeau’s art aims to reactivate and reinvent speculative worlds and ecosystems. The work *V – The mound that became a wandering spirit, shifting across immense distances* is a paper piece using pigment and charcoal that explores the termite mound as a radical alternative to human dwellings.

Jakob Kolding (b. 1971) is a Danish artist who lives and works in Berlin. The work *Untitled (refurbished)* is a three-part photomontage portraying a mental landscape inhabited by amorphous rock formations and modernist design objects; a landscape where the inner and outer worlds seem to merge.
