ARoS is inviting all young people to visit the museum for free

ARoS is taking part in the K7 Culture Week and is offering free admission to everyone under the age of 27 during week 37. As something new, ARoS has invited a group of young people to organise a special programme dedicated to the creative scene in Aarhus.

Are you under 27? If so, from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th September, you can visit ARoS for free as often as you like.

Once again this year, ARoS is taking part in the nationwide culture week K7, during which everyone aged 18–27 can visit ARoS for free, take a stroll through ‘Your rainbow panorama’, experience the current large-scale installation by artist Sarah Sze – which explores the fragility of the climate and our digital behaviour – or discover the giant sculptures ‘Boy’ and ‘A Girl’.

“This year, we hope to welcome a great many young people in week 37 – including some who might not otherwise visit ARoS very often. We want everyone to feel welcome as part of the ARoS community; this applies especially to young people,” says museum director Rebecca Matthews.

ARoS <3 K7 12 September
ARoS is usually one of the museums that attracts the most young people during K7 week, and this year we’re inviting you to a very special programme on Thursday 12 September.

We have brought together a group of young people to plan and develop ARoS <3 K7, which will take place on 12 September from 4 pm to 9 pm. The programme has been developed over the course of five workshops, and the project group has focused on creating a platform at one of the country’s largest museums for Aarhus’s creative scene.

Among other things, there will be workshops and a music bingo session with Club Curious, literary readings focusing on loneliness and mental wellbeing, screenings of short films produced by young filmmakers from Aarhus Filmværksted, concerts by up-and-coming artists from Aarhus’s creative scene, and a Sunset Silent Disco in ‘Your Rainbow Panorama’ at the top of ARoS.

Politiken’s Poptillæg will also be dropping by to record a podcast episode, which will be broadcast on Friday in week 37.

This is the first time young people have been directly involved in planning a major event at ARoS. The planning process has served as a pilot project and will pave the way for new concepts for young people at ARoS.

“Young people are the future of the museum, and the work of not only getting young people into the museum but also retaining and engaging them is an important part of our strategy. It is also work that can contribute to young people’s wellbeing, create new communities and provide young people with an interest in art and culture with a wide range of skills that they can use in other areas of their lives,” says Rebecca Matthews, adding

“We want to show trust in young people throughout the process, relax our approach, and dare to explore new avenues in terms of what a museum can do.”

About K7
K7 is a nationwide initiative offering free entry to more than 200 museums and exhibition venues for everyone aged 18–27. K7 is an open invitation to all young people, offering new cultural experiences and making a visit to a museum or theatre a little more spontaneous, accessible and without obligation.

K stands for culture. And 7 stands for 7 days, week 37 and up to the age of 27.

In Aarhus, K7 offers free entry to ARoS, KØN, Den Gamle By, Moesgaard Museum, the Steno Museum, Museum Ovartaci and the Occupation Museum.

To gain free entry, simply turn up at the museum or exhibition venue and bring your free, personalised K7 card, which can be downloaded from the K7 website.

The cultural organisation ADBC is behind K7, which this year is supported by the Spar Nord Foundation, the City of Copenhagen, CPH STAGE and the Augustinus Foundation. The Tuborg Foundation and DUF – the Danish Youth Council – have also supported K7 at ARoS.
