About the exhibition
The exhibition VIERA COLLARO - LEVITATION. COMPASSION. TRANSCENDENCE. presents three installations in three rooms about three spiritual stages by the American-Danish light artist Viera Collaro (b. 1946).
The exhibition is organised as a sequence starting with Levitation (2003), a sculptural and spatial light installation that reflects Collaro's interest in the meditative practice and the energy that many yogis believe can levitate a meditating person. This is followed by Compassion (2006), a light and text-based work that emphasises the importance of compassion and empathy, which in Collaro's sense also implies a recognition that we are all spiritually connected. The final room of the exhibition culminates in the encounter with a brand new work installation, Transcendence (2022), which consists of RGB light in different colours and white fabric in several lanes that together form an illuminated and colourful labyrinth. Transcendence (2022) is about the moment when we existentially transcend ourselves and new realisations take hold on a deeper level. As a whole, the exhibition shows us how light, surroundings, colours and words referring to inner human processes are central and interwoven components of Collaro's art.
