THIS IS NOT AFRICA - UNLEARN WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED is a highly topical exhibition featuring a number of leading contemporary artists. The artists are primarily from the African continent, but also from other countries.

The exhibition, consisting of approximately 25 works, includes a new façade work, site-specific installations, video works, sculptures, paintings, photos and a performance programme.

THIS IS NOT AFRICA - UNLEARN WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED disrupts a traditional and stereotypical Western narrative of 'the African'. It involves works that in various ways parody, break through, deconstruct or establish new frames of understanding and forms of expression. As something quite extraordinary, ARoS is creating an art satellite in close collaboration with the ambitious artistic powerhouse SCCA and Red Clay in Ghana.
