About the exhibition

The Cosmos Within presents a number of international artists who work across time and place at the intersection of art, healing and magic. They all work with art as a kind of portal that leads us into alternative and sensual worlds where contemporary man's relationship with nature, the body and the spiritual is rethought and revitalised.

The exhibition introduces us to a number of artists who use art to mediate and thematise the inherent spiritual forces of the world. This is done through a wide range of media, including large-scale textile works by British Emma Talbot and French-Guinean Tabita Rezaire, Yussef Agbo-Ola, photographs and found objects by Canadian Jeremy Shaw and British Susan Hiller, drawings and paintings by Swiss Emma Kunz and British Suzanne Treister, and immersive video and installation works by Norwegian Tori Wrånes, American Rachel Rose, Chinese Zheng Bo, British-Nigerian Evan Ifekoya, Japanese Ei Arakawa and Chilean Patricia Dominguez.

Together they act as purveyors of 'new cosmologies' that either revive mystical and spiritual practices and traditions, or otherwise merge spiritual thought and philosophy with the screen-dominant and technological society of today and tomorrow.

In a time of crisis, it is no coincidence that both artists and audiences are seeking alternative communities of thought, either by constructing new worlds or reviving old ones. Therefore, with the exhibition The Cosmos Within, ARoS wants to inspire other ways of understanding today's society, which is otherwise defined by all-encompassing digital systems, climate change and political, social and religious conflicts.
