About the exhibition

The exhibition includes more than 150 works selected in close collaboration with HM The Queen and HRH The Prince Consort. The exhibition includes both older and brand new works of art, and the artistic themes are divided into 10 galleries totalling 1,000 square metres.

The exhibition PAS DE DEUX ROYAL - an artistic encounter is staged as a retrospective dialogue between the diverse works of the Queen and the Prince Consort, and museum visitors are invited into a universe far removed from the Regent Couple's traditional and representative work.

In the exhibition, we meet The Queen as a landscape painter, but we can also experience the church textiles, the theatre's large stage designs and the meticulous découpages that have engaged Her Majesty and sharpened her creative talent over the years.

For the Prince Consort, it is sculpture and poetry that repeatedly find new expression in the imaginative bronze and marble figures and in the poetic flow of words.

The exhibition galleries visualise how the Queen and the Prince Consort have shared a long life together and, with creative talent, visualised their shared experiences in their own way and in different media. The Queen is thus preoccupied with the magnificent nature and never gives the figure a place in her art, while the Prince Consort always focuses on the animal and human body in his sculptures and, with frequent use of the words "you" and "I" in his poems, emphasises the human relationships.

With themes such as nature, love, fantasy and religion, the Regent couple's multifaceted art is filled with varying moods and expressions. Under ten headings for the ten sections of the exhibition, the works of the Queen and the Prince Consort enter into a beneficial dialogue - room by room.

On the occasion of the exhibition PAS DE DEUX ROYAL - an artistic encounter, ARoS is publishing a richly illustrated 220-page book with new photos of the royal couple and their many works.

Seven authors shed light on the artistic production of the Queen and the Prince Consort and, in the same breath, place the Regent Couple in a larger cultural-historical perspective. The book, which is available in Danish, English and French, was on sale in the ARoS Shop for DDK 299,-
