About the exhibition

From 27 January to 17 April 2006, ARoS proudly presented the exhibition MICHAEL KVIUM JAYWALKING EYES. More than 100 paintings were shown, the oldest from 1984 and the latest from autumn 2005. In addition, the films The Wake (2000) and Porridge (1986) were shown in the West Gallery.

Michael Kvium is one of Denmark's most distinctive and uncompromising artists, and his direct idiom and grotesque range of motifs speak effortlessly to our consciousness - even if the images can arouse both disgust and fascination. The themes of the exhibition JAYWALKING EYES included the idea of lustful madness, the taboo twists and turns of human nature and human blindness caused by pride - something that was also expressed in the exhibition title JAYWALKING EYES, as a jaywalker refers to a person who crosses a road without looking properly.
