John Kørner - ARoS Bank

With the exhibition John Kørner - ARoS Bank, ARoS Aarhus Art Museum takes on one of Denmark's most distinctive, talented and innovative younger artists.

ARoS Aarhus Art Museum gives John Kørner free rein to create a new 400 m2 installation featuring his best works from recent years as well as brand new paintings and sculptures created especially for ARoS.

With his spectacular, colourful and expressive painting, John Kørner (b. 1967) stands as an enriching innovator of contemporary painting. His painting is characterised by a bubbling energy that brings art "at eye level" with his audience.

For John Kørner, it is about overcoming the intellectual distance between painting and viewer in order to communicate directly with the audience. He does this by working intensely with the staging of the paintings so that they do not hang as surfaces on a white wall, but instead present themselves in completely new ways.
