About the exhibition

E.B. Itso's artistic practice is based on the overlooked and the neglected in relation to urban space, where E.B. Itso dwells on the parts that have not yet been regulated. He also has a great fondness for overlooked existences that live on the edge of society.

About the exhibition

With Building Stories, ARoS shows the wide range of E.B. Itso's production. The audience is presented with both self-built constructions hanging from the ceiling and facades from demolished houses. The exhibition also shows that the artist has a special kind of engagement. Several of the works document a journey to the Italian island of Lampedusa, where E.B. Itso collected clothes and boat debris left behind by refugees when they arrived on the island.

E.B. Itso works with an interventionist documentary style, not only recording the world from a distance. On several occasions, he has lived in alternative urban spaces himself. For example, he lived for two years in an abandoned factory in Vesterbro and in a small self-created apartment in the ventilation shaft above track 12 at the Central Station.

E.B. Itso seeks to give a voice to those who normally do not have the opportunity to express themselves by documenting them and through his activist interventions in urban space, he lets us see the parts of the city whose significance is no longer recognisable.

The exhibition Building Stories with the Danish artist E.B. Itso (1977) is presented throughout the summer in the ARoS West Gallery. The exhibition is part of the exhibition series ARoS FOCUS//NEW NORDIC. This is E.B. Itso's first museum exhibition.
