Co-evolution
About the exhibition
A Danish/Chinese collaboration on sustainable urban development in China. Behind the exhibition were young architects from CEBRA and TRANSFORM, both based in Aarhus, as well as Copenhagen-based architecture firms EFFEKT and COBE in collaboration with four of China's largest universities. The result is four groundbreaking and innovative proposals for what the Chinese cities of the future could look like.
The uniqueness of the exhibition was emphasised during the world's largest architecture biennale in Venice in 2006: CO-EVOLUTION won the main prize, the prestigious Golden Lion. The lion can also be seen at the exhibition at ARoS.
In a total visual experience of sound, moving images, posters and models, the audience is drawn into the Chinese urban reality: 16 out of 20 of the world's most polluted cities are located in China. In China, an area the size of Ørestad South is built in just a few weeks. In Beijing, a cloud creator is started on average every 36 hours. This reality has been the starting point for the four young architectural firms' proposals for new urban areas in the cities of Shanghai, Xi'an, Beijing and Chongqing.
