More than 535,000
visited ARoS in 2023

535,804 visitors came together around art at ARoS in 2023.

With six exhibition openings, a host of events, debates and talks, and ARoS' own collection of art works, the museum attracted approx 536,000 visitors in 2023.

This includes everyone who presented a ticket or annual pass to enter the museum for a full art experience.

If we include those who visited the museum for a wider dedicated ARoS experience, to shop in the museum shop or eat in the ARoS Café or Orangery, the figure for 2023 is 623,640 visitors.

"We are proud and pleased with the number of visitors in 2023 which sees a positive uplift on 2022 and we are delighted that so many have come to the museum to share immersive art experiences and to reflect upon the world we live in – even in a year that has presented financial challenges for many,” says Rebecca Matthews, museum director at ARoS.

It is especially pleasing to have high visitation in a year where ARoS has been undertaking such major building work for the entire year and had an the main entrance closed for a full 12 months. We look forward to see the continued positive support from our visitors in 2024,” she continues.

Visitor numbers for 2023 are higher than the previous year and almost on par with 2019 before COVID-19.

Expectation of even more visitors in 2024

In 2024, ARoS will celebrate its 20th anniversary in the iconic building on Aros Alle.

To mark the milestone, the museum will open its doors to two new exhibitions with works from the museum's own collection and a special presentation of the iconic sculpture Boy, which will be joined by two other works by the Australian sculptor Ron Mueck: A Girl, a five-metre long and highly detailed sculpture of a newborn baby, and Women with Shopping, a smaller than life-size figure thematising motherhood and the passage of life.
