On the opening day, you can be among the very first to experience James Turrell’s most ambitious Skyspace. Take part in the official opening and enjoy a sneak peek of approximately 15 minutes, where you will experience the work illuminated in a single colour—both with an open view to the sky and with the external lid closed.

Extraordinary midnight session

Here’s a unique chance to experience an extraordinary midnight session in As Seen Below. Encounter the Danish summer night in a way you’ve never tried before.

Architect and founder of Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Morten Schmidt, has been involved in designing As Seen Below in close collaboration with James Turrell from the early stages of the project. He explores how we experience light and colour physically, psychologically, and spiritually all related to As Seen Below. The lecture takes you behind the scenes of the art work as Morten Schmidt dives into questions such as: Why do we perceive complementary colours? How do colours arise in our perception? And how can light be understood as a phenomenon of knowledge and consciousness?

Act I: Separation presents the electronic piece Alphabet of Light by Italian composer Caterina Barbieri, which poetically accompanies the initial phase of the sunset.

Studio Director Jette Birkeskov Mogensen from the architecture studio Schmidt Hammer Lassen takes you behind the construction and design of As Seen Below —from vision to reality. She will discuss the collaboration with James Turrell, the unique architectural approach, and the structure of the work.
The talk offers a rare insight into the technical realization of ARoS’ largest and most ambitious artwork. After the talk, you are invited to visit As Seen Below and experience the work with a new perspective.

As the sun sets, As Seen Below is bathed in colorful light. This creates the perfect setting for a sensory mindfulness experience where you can slow down and reconnect with your body. Experience As Seen Below through a guided meditation and encounter the work with renewed presence.
The meditation takes place using a Silent Experience System (headphones), generously sponsored by Sydbank Fonden and William Demant Fonden.
Please bring your own yoga mat to lie on and optionally a blanket.
