“James Turrell’s work is created to evoke wonder, presence and a sense of community. We are delighted to now invite everyone to experience the poetry of light in this extraordinary space. Our hope is that visitors encounter the work not only as spectators, but as participants in an experience they will hopefully carry with them for a lifetime,” says Rebecca Matthews, Museum Director.
Throughout the summer, visitors can experience the special Twilights in As Seen Below every night. During these sessions, the artwork’s exterior lid is open, allowing the sky to unfold in vibrant, shifting colours, amplified and refined by Turrell’s light.
Multiple times a day, shorter light sessions – Colour Shifts –will also be presented inside the artwork, which will enter the ARoS collection. On Saturdays and Sundays, early risers can also enjoy Twilight at sunrises.

Talks, concerts, yoga, and family activities
The opening weekend, 20–21 June, will feature talks on light, perception and architecture. Visitors can also learn more about the creation of the monumental artwork in lectures by, among others, architect Morten Schmidt, SHL architect Jette Birkeskov, and photographer Torben Nielsen.
During the opening weekend, a three‑part sound work created specially for the occasion will also be performed in As Seen Below. Composed by Kh Marie Studio with input from James Turrell, the piece will unfold inside the Skyspace as part of the first sunset sessions.
In the following weeks, the programme continues with literary conversations moderated by Anne Glad featuring authors such as Dorthe Nors, Theis Ørntoft and Tine Høeg. Visitors can also experience talks and knowledge sessions with Anja C. Andersen, Ane Cortzen and Marie Laurberg among others. Alongside this, family workshops and shows will take place, complemented by yoga, meditation, guided walks and early‑morning experiences inside the artwork.
The entire opening programme has been made possible through the generous support of Salling Fondene, who have also provided crucial funding for the construction of the artwork.
“We in Salling Fondene are delighted to support a project that can be experienced and felt by so many different people. Many years of work culminate with the opening of As Seen Below, and we are proud to support an opening programme that enables people of all ages—both locals and visitors—to enjoy a truly unique experience,” says Karin Salling, the Deputy Chair of Salling Fondene.
