The large, interactive installation A Black Hole Calling Us invites you on a sensory journey towards – and into – a black hole. Developed in collaboration with researchers from DARK at the Niels Bohr Institute, Falkenstrøm's work explores black holes as some of the most powerful and enigmatic phenomena in the universe.
Black holes are both destructive and creative: they shape galaxies and influence the very evolution of the universe. The installation translates advanced astrophysical research into a sensory and poetic artistic experience that questions our own place in the cosmos – our fragility, curiosity and longing to understand what lies beyond human comprehension.
"With Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm's monumental installation, we are not only turning a new page in ARoS' exhibition history – we are inviting our audience into a sensory and interactive universe where the power of art can be felt both physically and mentally. The work connects the cosmic with the human, and it underscores our ambition to present contemporary art that challenges as well as engages," says museum director Rebecca Matthews.
“Black holes fascinate me because they are mysterious and destructive phenomena where gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape. They confront us with the limits of human understanding and control, and they spark my curiosity about whether, within the dark and destructive void, answers to our own human existence might be found,” says Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm.
The inauguration of Art Square will be marked with a public opening on Friday, 6 March 2026.
