During the autumn break, from October 11–19, 2025, ARoS in collaboration with Panduro®, invites children and their families to explore the sky through painting, shaping and colouring.

During the autumn break, ARoS's 1,000 square meter gallery on Level 5 will transform into three creative Sky Workshops, where children of all ages can create their own sky-inspired artworks. Throughout the week, children and families can also enjoy new books and films that explore the skyscape and space.

The autumn break kicks off with a festive Children’s Opening on Saturday, 11 October from 09.30 am. Everyone is invited to join the celebration on ARoS Level 4, where there will be magic show and free juice boxes, followed by opening speeches by Councilor for Children and Young People in Aarhus Municipality, Thomas Medom, and head of ARoS’ Public Engagement, Katrine Nør. Come and be part of a very special ARoS experience before we let you and your family take over the gallery.

"As always, we’re excited to welcome children and their families to ARoS during the autumn break. This year we’re exploring everything the sky can be. We have dedicated an entire gallery at the museum to workshops, giving our youngest guests the opportunity to explore art and the sky and learn about both through play and creativity and with the help of their imagination," says Rebecca Matthews, museum director at ARoS.

"We are proud to partner with ARoS to give children and families the opportunity to be creative. When children are given the opportunity to create something with their own hands – whether they are shaping clouds in clay or painting the sky with watercolours – they experience the special joy that comes from creating something themselves. That is exactly what we at Panduro work for every day," says Jimi Rasmussen, Marketing Manager at Panduro®.

Transform the sky into your own artwork
In the workshop A Piece of the Sky, you can shape your own clouds, stars or rockets in self-hardening clay and hang them in the gallery to float in the room – or take them home as a souvenir.

In the workshop Colour the sky, you can colour drawings of artworks from the ARoS collection, all portraying the sky, stars and clouds.

You can also help create a large co-created mosaic artwork in the workshop A thousand skies become one. Here you can paint skies with watercolour crayons and experience how the colours blend when painted over with water. The watercolour skies are continuously hung in the gallery, creating one large sky.

Between workshops, there is space to take a break in two different reflection rooms.
In the Sky Room, you can settle down in cosy sofas under a bright starry sky and read children's books about stars, moons and rockets.
In the Sky Film room, you can watch a children’s film about the skies above Aarhus, created in collaboration with the Science Museums at Aarhus University.

Throughout the week, there will be special art tours for children and their families.
