ARoS receives five works on paper by prominent young artists from the New Carlsberg Foundation

The donation includes three works by Chinese artist Liu Shiyuan, one work by French artist Marguerite Humeau and one work by Danish artist Jakob Kolding.

The three artists are exciting new voices on the international art scene. Through their artistic practices they all shed light on contemporary human existence.

'We are incredibly pleased and honoured by the generous donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation. The five works bring new relevance and give younger voices a more prominent place in ARoS' collection of works on paper. We look forward to presenting the works to our visitors through future collection exhibitions,' says Rebecca Matthews, museum director at ARoS.

About the artists

Liu Shiyuan (b. 1985) is a Chinese artist working in Beijing and Copenhagen. Her multimedia practice includes photography, text, video, and installation. The two acrylic works on paper, Punished You and Me No. 15 and No. 16, consist of hundreds of small coloured squares which at first glance look like a pixelated digital photo. The last work, Cold-Blooded Animal No. 5, is a C-print on paper. All three works comment on the all-encompassing visual culture we are surrounded by and highlight the relationship between man and machine.

Marguerite Humeau (b. 1986) is a London-based French visual artist known for her multidisciplinary art practice which combines elements of sculpture, installation and storytelling. Humeau's art aims to reactivate and reinvent speculative worlds and ecosystems. The work V - The mound that became a wandering spirit, shifting across immense distances is a paper work with pigment and charcoal that explores the termite nest as a radical alternative to human habitation.

Jakob Kolding (b. 1971) is a Danish artist living and working in Berlin. The work Untitled (refurbished) is a three-part photo collage that portrays a mental landscape inhabited by amorphous rock structures and modernist design objects; a landscape where the inner and outer seem to merge.
