ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum

"When I was young, I would go past Aarhus Museum on my way to the library every day. That was back when the museum was located at Mølleparken, before the Aarhus Art Museum moved to Vennelystparken in 1967, and long before it became ARoS in 2004. I would often go up to the first floor to take in two or three paintings and then go on with that impression lodged inside me. It was very satisfying for me to immerse myself in a couple of pictures before proceeding towards my main business of the day, which was to get to the library. At the time, the Grauballe Man bog body was also in the museum.

Visiting an art museum can be physically exhausting. I think it’s because you expend so much energy on judging and deciding whether what you’re looking at is good. You’d be bursting at the seams if you had to see it all. But you don’t have to.
